  1. 1A shortage that Danish people experience were fuel, and it made the people very cold at night because they didn’t have any heat.
2The Danes could protect the Jew’s because the Danes are really the king’s bodyguards, which the Jews could maybe act like the king’s.
3The Germans burnt down Tivoli Gardens because it was a way of punishing the fun-loving Danes for their lighthearted pleasures. The real fireworks show had been the Danes blowing up there ships. They did this so the Germans could not go to other countries, or steal their boats.
4They are different because the ones inside the house are the people who come and check to make sure if they are in the house, and the ones outside are to make sure that no one is trying to escape, so they would most likely catch the person if anyone tries to escape.
5Mr. Johansen fooled the soldier when he said From a different father, from the milkman. DW#21

  2. The kinds of shortages during the war was very bad because the nazi kept on taking any food that came to the country
The danish people can protect the Jews as their body guard is because some people are friends of the Jews and they want to protect them because if the get captured they might never see them again.

The Germans burned down Tivoli gardens because they it was to Joyful and fun. The kind of fire works Kristi saw were the fire of the burning down garden. the danes did this because they thought that it was to fun.

The three uniformed men are diffrent then the ones in chapter 1 is because the the three men are Nazi and the other ones are just germans.
Mr. Johnson triked the German into thinking that she doesn't have brown hair by saying that she is My friend, Jwf7

1.One of the shortages was electricity. On page 18 it says,” Mama used it too, sometimes, for cooking, because electricity was rationed now. At night they used candles for light” Another shortage was sugar. I know this because on page 20-21 it says,” and I suppose they took a big basket of pink-frosted cupcakes with them” Annemarie said sarcastically.

2.The people of Denmark could protect the Jewish people by taking in the Jews who have lost jobs of theirs or been threatened by the soldiers.

3.The German soldiers burned down Tivoli Gardens in a way of tormenting Jews. When Kirsti thought she saw “fireworks” was the night of Tivoli being burnt down. Her mother told her it was fireworks for her birthday.

    4. The three German soldiers in chapter 1 were described as threatening by their cold stern eyes, shiny black boots and riffles but they were familiar. The soldiers are described with harsh voices and footsteps.

    5. Mr. Johansens fools the soldier by ripping out all the girls pictures when they were children and shows him that Lise had dark hair as a child so he tricks him to think Ellen really is Lise.

  4. #1. Some shortages that the Danish people experience during the war was food shortages. For example it said in the text that the Rosen's some how bought a chicken and is said they haven't had a chicken in almost a year. Another example is Kirsti's new shoes were made out of fish skin because they didn't have leather.
#2. The Danes (people of Denmark) could help protect the Jews by sneaking them to an other country such as Sweeten.
#3. The Germans burned down Tivoli Gardens because it was there way punishing the fun-loving Danes for their lighthearted pleasures. When Kirsti thought she was watching a "fireworks show" she really saw the fire, bombs blowing up and gun shots in the air. Also the burning naval fleet. The Danes blew up these ships because they don't want the Nazis to take over their ships for their own use. #4. The three uniformed German soldiers who came to the Johansen's apartment in the middle of the night are different from the two soldiers on the street in Chapter 1 because it said on page 46 that the solders on the corners of the streets were young and sometimes ill at ease. But the German soldiers who came to the Johansen's apartment in the middle of the night were older and their faces were set with anger.
5.Mr. Johansen "fools" the German soldiers when they question why Ellen has dark hair by showing the picture of of his dead daughter Lise and pretended Ellen was Lise.

  5. 1. Some shortages that the Danish people have during the war are, there is no butter and in the book it says “ Mama used the stove for cooking because electricity was rationed now.
    2. The Danes can protect the Jewish people by acting like bodyguards because the Jews can act as if they were in the non-Jews family like Ellen did, she pretended to b Lise and be in Annamarie’s family.
    3. The Germans burned down Tavoli Gardens because, “ Perhaps as way of punishing the fun-loving Danes for their lighthearted pleasures.” Also, Kristi saw the bombing of Tavoli Gardens and she thought that the bombs were the fireworks.
    4. The solders that came to Annamarie’s apartment were different from the soldiers on the street because, it says that “The street soldiers were often young, sometimes ill at ease, and Annamarie remembered how the Giraffe had, for moment, let his harsh pose slip and had smiled at Kristi. ”
    5. Mr. Johansen fooled the German soldiers when they questioned why Ellen had dark hair, Mr. Johansen fooled them because Lise had dark hair like Ellen and so Mr. Johansen showed a picture of Lise, Annamarie, and Kristi so the soldiers thought that Ellen was really Lise.

1.The shortage the Danish people had were cupcakes butter and and the father misses smoking. But this is because the germens were occupied them and took some of the materials to bring back to their solgers.so they would not get about of their old thing because of the Germans

    2. They relly don’t protect them but they just hide them so for example on padge 1 it says that they don’t want to have the sogers rember there faces because if they rember them thell know that the friend of the other girl so she could be talken away and KILLED.
3.The germens burend down the amusment park they burned it down but her sister thought they were fireworks but it relly wasn’t it was the germens but she was only 5 so she thought it was fireworks.
4.the solger in the street just stoped them and didn’t know who they werebut the 2 sogers that came to the jonansens apartment got a list from some one.also the solger in the street thinks that the girls are just normel people not jews

  7. 1)The shortage the Danish people had were the cupcakes and butter. Another one that the father wants is cigarettes. They took all the food so the solders don't starve to death. They would rather make the Danes starve to death.

    2) The Danes can protect the Jews by disguise for example, Annemarie's family takes Ellen because she is a Jew and they say that they are sisters. The solders got to trust the Danes because the solders are protecting the Danes.

    3) The Germans burnt down Tivoli Gardens because it was a way of punishing the fun-loving Danes for their lighthearted pleasures. The mom told Kirsti it was fireworks for her birthday because she does not know what is going on so if she knew she would wonder why.

    4) They are different solders because they must do solders who guard/check the outside like the ones in chapter one and the ones who guard/check inside like in chapter five.

    5) Mr. Johanson fooled the solder when they asked why Ellen has dark hair because the photos of Lise were cut and framed into a picture of Ellen.
